No photo for this one either — but the Bar-Bill Tavern in East Aurora, NY is famous enough to deserve a post regardless. Went about three years ago while in Buffalo visiting family. Honest take: it’s probably a little overrated at this point — the reputation has outgrown the actual experience a bit — but “a little overrated” here still means genuinely excellent wings. That’s not really a complaint.
Background
The Bar-Bill opened in 1967 — named for original owners Barb and Bill Korzelius — in a building on Main Street that’s stood for over 150 years. Wings weren’t even on the menu at first; Beef on Weck was the only food. That changed in 1983, when Joe Giafaglione (a former Bell Aerospace engineer who’d bought the tavern a few years earlier) opened a kitchen and started methodically developing the wings and sauces the place is now known for. They won the 2020 Nightclub & Bar Award for “Juiciest Wings in the Universe.”
