Honest take: the mall location is fine, but it’s nowhere near the original in the North End. That’s not really a knock on this specific location so much as an acknowledgment that the original is one of the actual great ones — a post about that original location is coming separately, and it’ll do the family more justice than this one does.
Background: the Polcari Connection
Regina Pizzeria was founded in 1926 by Luigi D’Auria in Boston’s North End. Early on, the founding family bought wine, tomatoes, and cheese from the Polcari family’s grocery store across the street. The Polcaris bought into the pizzeria themselves in the early 1940s, folding in their own family recipes, and by 1956 owned it outright. They’ve run it ever since — three generations now, expanded to a dozen Regina Pizzeria locations plus two standalone Polcari’s Italian restaurants.
