Saturday Lunch Wings, Courtesy of the Air Fryer

12:32 on a Saturday. Most people are thinking about a sandwich. This household is thinking about the air fryer.

Method: air fried. That’s the whole story, and honestly, that’s the appeal. No oil vat, no grill to light, no cleanup worth talking about. You put raw chicken in the basket and twenty-odd minutes later your counter smells like a sports bar.

What came out: seven wings, a mix of flats and drums, golden and blistered with that lightly lacquered look air-fried skin gets when it renders properly. Sauce was a light coat, not a drench. These were more “glazed” than “swimming,” which is the correct call when you’re eating them at lunch and want your fingers to survive the afternoon.

The supporting cast: a striped placemat, the house’s trusty blue plate, a bowl of celery and carrot sticks (eaten out of obligation, as is tradition) and a deli cup of dip.

For the deeper dive on the method, see Alton Brown’s air fryer wings from earlier in the archive.

Invented detail, flagged as such: I’ll guess these were meant to be the first half of a pack, with the second half saved for dinner, and that plan lasted about four minutes.
